Brighton‘s Trans community working together
The Trans Alliance is a forum for trans community leaders and activists who are living, working, studying or socialising in Brighton & Hove.
Aims and values:
Promote equality for trans people in Brighton & Hove by means of engagement with statutory and third sector organisations.
Develop and strengthen our community by working together, sharing information, supporting initiatives and providing mutual peer support.
Work in partnership with the local LGBT community, ensuring a strong trans voice and participation.
We achieve our aims by:
Meeting regularly to discuss current issues.
Participating in meetings with Brighton & Hove City Council including the Strategic Needs Assessment, the City Inclusion Sub Group, and matters arising from the 2013 Trans Equality Scrutiny. With LGBT organisations including LGBT HIP, Brighton Pride and the LGBT Small Groups Network.
Providing Trans Awareness Training – devised and delivered by the community. Proceeds of which will be fed back into trans community projects.
Receiving donations on behalf of the community to distribute fairly to trans projects locally. This includes proceeds from the sales of Brighton Trans*formed (Queens Park Books 2014)
Membership is open to trans-identified representatives of local trans organisations, organisations that provide one or more trans specific services or have a large and ongoing trans client-base. The Trans Alliance is also seeking to involve a number of independent trans-identified people who are not affiliated to any of the current member organisations. We particularly welcome trans people from minority ethnic backgrounds and older people.
Currently we have representatives from:
